How it works

AudioDraft community, consisting of over 10,000 musicians and sound designers globally, helps you to get the custom made music and sound design you are looking for. On AudioDraft you can create open sound design contests in which the sound designers compete for the prize money you set.

1. Compile your design brief

Select a licence and decide how much you are willing to pay for the audio production.
Describe what kind of audio are you looking for and where it will be used.

2. Review and give feedback

Designers will submit entries to your contest.
Be sure to guide them with your feedback during the contest.

3. Pick the winner

Select the best entry and award the winner.
You will get worldwide licence to use the audio production.

Creating a contest

  1. Select a license
  2. Choose a license according to your needs and budget. We offer you two kinds of licenses: Non-exclusive and Exclusive. Exclusive licenses naturally cost more because they give you all rights to use the winning entry. You must also choose duration for the license. You can select duration of 1, 2 or 5 years or you can also choose perpetual license.

All licenses are world-wide and cover all media.

  3. Set the prize
  4. You can decide the prize money for your contest. We charge a prize handling fee that is 10% of your prize money. $99 listing fee is applied to all contests.

Our recommendation prizes give you a hint on what the designers are used to getting paid at the least. Recommendation prizes are affected by the license you have chosen. Remember: The more appealing the prize is the more entries you can expect!

In case you don't get what you came looking for in AudioDraft and don't pick a winner in the end of the contest, we have a money back guarantee. This means that we will refund your prize money and 10 % handling fee.

  5. Basic details
  6. Write a design brief synopsis for the designers. It should point out in few sentences what the production should sound like. Select a category that best describes where you're going to use the audio. This will help the designers to find your contest better and understand quickly what they are dealing with.
  7. Payment
  8. You can make the payment with PayPal at the moment. PayPal allows all major credit card payments.
  9. Detailed brief and publishing
  10. After the payment you can refine your contest information. An important part of this step is to write a more detailed brief for the artists on what you're looking for. After completing the final review you can publish the contest by pressing the "Save and Publish" button.

Managing a contest

  1. Listen to the entries
  2. You should regularly listen to new entries submitted to your contest. Compare entries with each other and decide which ones you like the most.
  3. Comment actively
  4. Give critical and constructive feedback to the designers participating in your contest. This way you can ensure that the designers are heading towards the right direction with their creations. Remember to be polite and discrete and that you should always answer any questions directed to you!
  5. Rate and eliminate entries
  6. You have the ability to rank entries (range of 1 to 5 stars). You should rank entries to let designers know which kind of entries you prefer the most. If some entry is a definite no-go you can eliminate it from the contest. It is a good idea to leave a comment to the designer, whose work you have eliminated, explaining why his/her work has been eliminated from the contest.
  7. Pick the winner
  8. After the contest has closed and you have made up your mind on the best entry it is time to officially select it as a winner. Your prize money will be automatically transferred to the winner and you will receive audio files for the winning work in highest quality. If you think that none of the entries is a winner you will get your prize money refunded 100%.

Participating in a contest

  1. Design your entry
  2. First you should carefully read the design brief and study all reference videos and files (if available) related to the contest. Imagine in your head what the best outcome of the contest would sound like. Once you know what the contest is about you can start working on your first contest entry.
  3. Make the best entry
  4. Follow the directions set in the design brief and do your magic. Show the best of your artistic and creative skills in making of your first contest entry. The first impression you make as a sound designer is very crucial and its importance should not be underestimated.
  5. Learn from feedback
  6. The contest holder will most likely comment your entry and rate it with 1 to 5 stars. Feedback is very important for you and helps you to create the best entry. Take advice from the comments and listen to other designers’ productions as well.
  7. Re-iterate
  8. If you can improve your entry, do it! You can submit as many entries in one contest as you like. If you have any questions regarding the contest you can always leave a comment with your question in it on the contest page. It is contest holder’s duty to respond any questions.
